Under cloudy skies moments before a downpour, the bottoms of fountains along Central Avenue couldn't be seen Wednesday to determine how many coins were in them. The springs-fed fountain outside the national park's visitor center roiled with 143-degree water; mineral-heavy water at another fountain at the city's center was a deep enough shade of brown to obscure the bottom. It's true that the network scored with the second series of Underbelly, although the crime drama's cynical exposure of breasts and bottoms raised troubling questions about the mindset of the broadcaster's decision-makers. The first series couldn't be accused of modesty but at least there was evidence of a confidence in the power of the production to attract an audience on the strength of its story and performances.
