Marysville battler recalls great fire Mar 22, 2009
As the 77-year-old and his son Darrell, 48, raced around their Keppel Court home with hoses and buckets on Black Saturday, jumping on pockets of flames, the "red hot" molten metal bowling ball flew out of the sky and slammed into his garden, sparking a spot fire in the grass. "I made inquiries and found that a friend of mine 250 metres away had a set of bocce balls and I said I've got half of one of yours at my place," Mr Sund said, cradling the broken bocce ball, a popular bowling pastime.
