    Madame Alexander, who died in 1990 at age 95, was a pioneer in creating collectible dolls based on famous figures from movies and real life. Among the figures that made her company famous -- and that have become highly sought-after collectibles -- were a 1936 Scarlett O'Hara doll inspired by the novel of "Gone With the Wind" three years before the movie was produced.
